Best Friend – Labrador etching by Alison Read
Etching is traditionally the process of using strong acid to cut into the unprotected parts of a metal surface to create a design in intaglio in the metal. Fine needle tools are used to engrave in the lines on the surface while aquatint, a powder in different grades, is used for graduated shading.
About the artist : Alison Read is an honours graduate of Newcastle University with a degree in fine art. Her quirky character filled artwork has always been highly popular at the Jardine Gallery and makes many customers smile. Alison’s love for wildlife easily shows through in her pieces. She has had her work published noticeably in “The Printmakers Cat” by Alan Marshall
