Marie Brown was born in 1978 in Nottingham where I have lived all my life. Throughout her childhood she enjoyed all kinds of art, especially drawing and trying to create a likeness of something on paper. In her education she studied Art at ‘A Level’ then also an Art and Design Foundation Course, but it was several years after this, in 2005, that her passion for drawing really grew.

Marie Brown began by drawing dogs and cats, then wildlife. She discovered a love of drawing fur!!

She said “I have always loved animals, so I soon became enthusiastic about drawing them. I practiced as often as I could, learning tips and techniques from other pencil artists.” Her sketches gradually developed into more detailed studies, and this is how she loves to work, creating a realistic appearence. Marie decided to take her hobby more seriously when she started taking on commissions for pet (and people) portraits and she hasn’t stopped drawing since!

Marie Brown was a finalist in the BBC Wildlife artist of the year competition in 2012.
