Hippo – ceramic sculpture by Julian Jardine

  • Size 42cm deep, 30cm wide, 21cm high
  • Hippopotamus sculpture made as a demonstration at Potfest in the Park. I then brought it back to the studio and completed it.

Back in the mid 1990’s I was approached to make a smaller limited edition Hippo for Whipsnade Zoo. I created 100 of them and they sold to help raise funds for a new Hippo enclosure. The new enclosure has since been completed.

About the artist. Julian Jardine is a graduate of Duncan of Jordanstone Art College where he completed a BA Hons in Ceramics. Julian established himself self employed in 1993 with the aid of the Princes Youth Business Trust, an invaluable support during the early years of his career. Julian has since worked creating masters for other companies while exhibiting with galleries in the UK and abroad.

He spent 5 years working in the computer games industry based in Dundee while still doing some exhibiting before returning to full time self employment in 2007. In 2008 Julian established the Jardine gallery in Perth where he currently works today.

Julian Jardine was a finalist in the with the Craft and Design Selected Awards and has been a selected finalist in the David Shepherd Wildlife Artist of the Year before. He has become a regular exhibitor at the Potfest International Ceramic Shows.
