Mark Langley - Fine Artist
Mark was born in Derbyshire in 1973 and grew up their until a HND took
him to Sheffield College, where he studied design, illustration and photography.
After finishing college he worked for a further 4 years in Sheffield before
moving back to Derbyshire, he now lives in Belper. Mark's background as
a graphic artist has shaped his approach in his current artwork but his
drawing skills are entirely self taught. Mark began drawing in his highly
detailed style as a teenager before getting hooked on the world of illustration.
Mark has truly a different approach in the detailed way in which he works.
His combination of pencil and colour pencil work stands up to extremely
close examination, and unlike most paintings looks even better at close
quarters. Casual Observers may notice the highly realistic representational
style but get a little closer and you will see that every hair and blade
of grass is painstakingly drawn in individual pencil strokes.
Mark's inspirations are many and varied, he admires both the style and philosophy
of the Pre-Raphaelites, and the technical skill of the Dutch Masters. He
also draws inspiration from the designers of the Arts and Crafts and Art
Nouveau movements, and a number of more contempory artists including Carl
Brenders and Steven Townsend.
Mark also accepts commissions, and spends half of his time working on commissioned
pieces. He loves the process of creating a commissioned portrait with his
client, and his talent for capturing an accurate likeness means he is in
high demand.
