Lucy Palmer Jewellery
Lucy creates unique and beautiful jewellery inspired by myths, fairytales, folk lore, childhood memories and the natural world.
“I am fascinated by stories of all kinds from ancient myths and legends to children’s tales. I often use narratives in my work, inviting the viewer to recall a favourite story, or perhaps to make up their own. Jewellery has long been surrounded by tales of magical powers and mythical wonders, from golden necklaces that enchant the wearer and bewitch others, to rings which possess great power.”
The distinctive designs are brought to life in precious metals using many traditional hand worked techniques. Intricate details are cut out using a jewellers piercing saw. Decorative effects such as, oxidising, enamelling, roll printing and keum boo (a Korean technique of fusing pure gold foil to silver) are used to add texture and colour.
Lucy has a first class degree in ‘Decorative Arts’ from Nottingham Trent University and enjoyed working with many different media, particularly Textiles, before discovering a love of making jewellery. She also works as a Community Artist, working on a variety of workshops and Participatory Art projects with different groups in the Derbyshire area.
