Donald Cameron - Photography

The focus of my work is the landscape & seascapes of Scotland, predominantly shot in black & white. Photographing often deserted stretches of coastline creates an amazing sense of peace and tranquility that I try to get across in my images, with nothing but the camera and the vast endless ocean for company. I love being able to almost control the ocean through the lens, turning a choppy tide into a calm silky wash using long exposure. It is this that provides my constant inspiration and keeps drawing me back to the sea.

The Fife coastal trail is of particular interest with it's rugged coastline, interspersed with several really nice beaches and small fishing villages, such as Crail, Elie, Lower Largo and Anstruther. I also enjoy returning to the likes of St Andrews and Broughty Ferry, despite the often bitterly cold winds (and that's just in summer!)

I also take great inspiration from classic landscape photographers such as Ansel Adams, as although his subject matter and locations were quite different to mine, the originality of composition and striking use of contrast in his black and white landscapes is something I try to aspire to.
