Anna Yorsten
The subject of my work is a variety of figurative and abstract, recently it is developing into work focused on wildlife, flora and fauna. I have a keen interest in conservation and land management in various countries. The differing cultures of indigenous peoples, social structures, traditions, skills which grow out of a celebration of land and place, wildlife and terrain combined with the need to survive.
These cultures own artistic expression in story telling, song, dance, poetry, drawing, painting, traditional arts and crafts handed down the generations I find fascinating and a constant learning opportunity.
The use of language, layers of meaning and depiction of words becoming images, images becoming words is an area I like to explore in some of my work. I also write poetry to express these sentiments.
I am mainly self-taught but have spent some time studying graphics and special design in Aberdeen college, later followed by Fine Art, sculpture and environmental art at Glasgow school of art.
